Introduction

Bukit Jalil is a suburb of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, located about 10 kilometers south of the city center. It was known as the Bukit Jalil Estate until 1992, when the National Sports Complex was developed for the 1998 Commonwealth Games.

The area was originally a rubber plantation, but the government acquired it in the early 1990s to build the National Sports Complex. The complex was completed in 1998 and consists of a number of world-class sports facilities, including the Bukit Jalil National Stadium, Axiata Arena, National Squash Centre, National Aquatic Centre, and National Hockey Stadium.

The 1998 Commonwealth Games was a major turning point for Bukit Jalil, as it put the suburb on the international map. Since then, Bukit Jalil has hosted a number of other major sporting events:
